FAQ
The idea for BallGrabber began twenty years ago when Alan noticed how often lessons were interrupted by balls rolling off the net and into the court. Safety was always his top priority, so clearing stray balls was essential, but it continually broke the flow of drills. He knew there had to be a better way.
Alan began creating prototype after prototype until he found a design that caught the balls before they became hazards. He even wrote and secured the patent himself. Although the project paused for personal reasons, it resurfaced years later when he saw a parent express concern about unsafe courts online. More than one hundred coaches agreed with her, reminding Alan exactly why his idea mattered.
That moment reignited the mission. Today, after two decades of testing and perfecting the design, Alan uses BallGrabber on his own courts and believes every teaching court can benefit from safer play, faster ball pickup and more productive lessons.

When a tennis ball is hit into the tennis net the ball invariably rolls out of the net into the playing area causing a safety issue for players and coaches. Ball Grabbers grab the tennis balls hit into the net and keep them from rolling out into the playing area and causing this safety hazard. BallGrabbers eliminate sprained ankles or serious falls from stepping on stray tennis balls.
Absolutely! When a tennis ball is hit into the net a coach or player will have to remove the ball from the playing area because it is a safety hazard. This takes time and effort. With Ball Grabbers grabbing the netted ball it means more playing and lesson time for the players. For coaches it means more teaching time. Ball collection is way faster and easier because the netted balls are in one place. Additionally, for facility management, it shows to members that they are concerned about the members safety and drastically reduces liability issues.
Ball Grabbers are made to last! The nets are made with #24 black twisted 1 1/2” square nylon that is UV resistant and rot resistant. The cord is solid braid black polyester that is low stretch and high UV resistant. The cord is also resistant to abrasion, rot, and organic solvents with 350 lb max break strength. The posts are made with furniture grade pvc that is UV protected and made to withstand extreme temperatures and stress. The Hacco 1” heavy duty retractable ratchets are 1,500 lb break strength that are rust proof and corrosion resistant for all weather conditions. The other parts are made with stainless steel so no rusting. The Ball Grabbers work on round or square net posts and do not attach in any way to the net posts or net.
It is very easy and no tools are needed! For one person it is under 5 minutes and for 2 people under 3 minutes. There are only six parts to the Ball Grabbers. Two nets, two posts, and two retractable ratchets. The first step is the horizontal posts are attached to the tennis net post with velcro straps. The second step is attaching one end of the nets to the retractable ratchets and the other to the horizontal posts. The third step are the nets are tightened with the retractable ratchets. And the last step is attaching the the bottom of the nets in five places with the stainless steel carabiners. The great aspect of the Ball Grabbers is they can be left up for regular singles or doubles play because the safety nets are only six inches from the tennis net so they do not interfere with normal match play. It is recommended that the Ball Grabbers are loosened daily which takes approximately five seconds.
